A ruckus ensues and the man is escorted out the door.An hour later, the man is dead and the esteemed necklace is missing. McKenna reports the crime and has a strange dream about the dead man, courtesy of a Hawaiian spirit. According to his guide, he has all he needs to solve the crime, only he can’t make heads nor tails of the abstract message. He caught the case, but can he catch the killer?
I always enjoy touching base with Ambrose’s McKenna. His Spartan lifestyle and thirst for justice are more than heroic qualities. They are the threads of McKenna’s existence. A solid read about Hawaii is the next best thing to being there.

I wish this had been book length. I wasn't finished with the story when I came to the end. Good original writing. Good plot. Just not enough of it.
I expected it to contain more Hawaiian culture.
My favorite of all Terry Ambrose's McKenna books. Reading his stories, you can tell he enjoys writing them. Try any of his McKenna stories, and in any order. You'll be pleased with the quick trip to Hawaii he takes you on.
I always enjoy McKenna, a crochety old fart who in retirement has turned his skills in skip tracing and collections into a sideline as an occasional PI. This is another solid offering in a good series.
A great story, twists you don't expect, a dire situation, and kids learning to be adults. One still thinks he can bluff the investigators, another is ahead of the gang and honest. The third, well i'll let you decide.
Quite enjoyable! I love where it takes place, in Hawaii. How the story unfolds. Good reading.
Good short story, that mystery readers will find enjoyable. McKenna is a private investigator, whose friend Chance wants to follow in the man footsteps. He gets his chance when the two are at the Book and A Latte shop. Ricky Coyne steps in while they are there and the necklace his is wearing, a sacred Hawaiian Niho Palaoa, isn't going to end up getting Mr. Coyne dead and McKenna and Chance on the trail of a killer. This is the first book I've read by this author, but I'm sure not the last, I love the writing style and can't wait to get my hands on a novel.
