The thrilling, un-put-downable sequel to The Year of Four.

According to the press, Phoebe Pope and teen movie star Colten Chase are no longer an item—which is just how the happy new couple like it. And yet there’s trouble in paradise . . .

Phoebe is haunted by dreams that show her things she can’t possibly know about—including a pact between Colten and a wanted assassin. In the daylight, she struggles to keep a newly emerging power hidden, even as her hands itch to wield it.

Meanwhile, in the wake of their escape from a Vigo crèche, Phoebe and her fellow Hyphas study under lock and key at the Campus Below. As the foursome wait to see who among them will fulfill the prophecy, someone dear to Phoebe is kidnapped by a powerful Vigo determined to use her to spy on the Shaper royalty. When the Hyphas are called to the Royal Court, Phoebe refuses to heed warnings of imminent danger for she will do whatever it takes to rescue her loved one.

But once at court, nothing is as it first appears. A sinister force controls some royals, while others whisper behind closed doors about forbidden alliances. And as Phoebe draws on her courage to complete the task set by her enemy, she makes a startling discovery—one that upends her father’s memory.
With dangerous conspiracies surfacing, Phoebe must uncover what the Royal Shapers really want from her, and decide whether there’s room for Colten in her unraveling life.

I haven’t looked into this genre much but thought I’d give it a try. Overall this was a good read and much better than the first book in the sense that the stakes are a lot higher and the focus shifts from fawning over a movie star to the bigger conflict of the shapers and vigos. My main beef with the movie star/royal court bit is that I feel it would be more realistic if the characters were a little older because they would draw less attention to themselves and their missions from outsiders if the main and supporting characters were at least young adults. The world created is an interesting concept, but I kept picturing more of a college/university type setting than a boarding school. Not to mention the cover of the book makes the main characters look much older than 16 and 18 imo. I felt the main and supporting characters were well developed for the most part and I felt the author did a good job with details and world building. I am interested to see how the story ends. With that being said I really hope the author doesn’t wait another 6 years before releasing the next book like this book was in relation to the first one. I understand these things take time and authors have lives outside of writing, but I appreciate when authors at least give tentative release dates to keep readers interested and anticipating the next book. If the next book is still years away, I’m not sure I’ll still be invested in the story, even if it did end in a cliffhanger. I hope it’s sooner rather than later.

The Blood of Kings A Phoebe Pope Novel Book 2 eBook Nya Jade Reviews

Make sure to read the first in the series, The year of four before starting this book!

Read, you wont be sorry!, The only thing I want to add is... WHEN DOES THE NEXT ONE COME OUT?! I need to know what’s going to happen next! I need more Phoebe, Colten and the others in my life!
I wonder who the real one is, who will replace the immortal one. Is she vigo, shaper, human? Can they have a child? If they have a child that would be amazing. Interested yet? There is so much going on in this book, it is a must read. I can not wait for the next one.
Let me first say I LOVED BOOK 1. But, what Nya Jade has accomplished with her sequel is nothing short of epic. This book left me breathless.

Remove the phrase, "sophomore slump," from your lexicon right now, because in Phoebe Pope's world, it does not exist. Ms. Jade has written a tour-de-force novel . . . one that towers above its contemporaries. She advanced both the plotlines and the characters with an expertise and polish not found often in newly published writers. I wanted more and more and more and more . . . and with each page, I got it. This book solidifies Nya Jade's place in the YA universe. I wish I could give it 10 stars.
The second installment in the Phoebe Pope series was even better than the first!! With all the twists and turned that happened along the way, I couldn’t put it down and loved every minute. Now I can’t wait for the final book, OMG, that’s going to be seriously awesome. )
If I had known book 2 wasn’t the end, I wouldn’t have started. I’m disappointed. However, this book was EXCITING. The author’s writing allowed me to see the characters and the setting in my mind. I was impatient to know what comes next, but I couldn’t read ahead, or I’d miss something. I LOVED this book. Book 1 was the perfect introduction to this highly recommended book.
The Blood of Kings is Book 2 of the Phoebe Pope Book series and it does not disappoint. Definitely a great and fun read. The characters are all well thought out and have become more complex (and dare I say "dark") since book 1...there are some new characters as well that I was particularly fond of but I won't name specifics here because I do not want to give anything away. There are definitely some cliffhangers and some heart stopping scenes and chapters that had me wanting more...immediately! Would recommend it to YA readers, and those who like fantasy novels! Can't wait for Book 3!
I liked book one better. Got tired of crying Phoebe and how she always getting beat up or kidnapped. She can't even fight. Pathetic. The end showed her power but that's about it.

The whole betrayal and heartbreak as a cliffhanger suck. The cliffhanger on this book was big. Didn't care for the extensive court telling basically bored me. Ended up giving up and just flipped through the pages. This one was boring for me.

Good writing but too long on the court details. Not sure if I'm reading the next book. Lost interest already. I just don't want to read about a weak and a cryer mc who always get hurt. If you don't care for major cliffhanger, don't read this.
